Things to Know: How should we Measured Rain In Monsoon

During this monsoon season we may frequently hear the words like this much Centimeter of rain has been recorded in a particular place, but have you ever thought about how its been measured..? well, most of us haven’t bothered to know about it, let me tell about it.

Rain Fall Measurement by Rain Gauge

Rain fall measurements is done by a rain gauge which is also known as an udometer, pluviometer, or an ombrometer. Rain fall measurement is done by  collecting the water  in a rain gauge. These special drums are then used to record the depth of the water inside. Rain gauges are usually about 50 cm tall and are placed on the ground just high enough to avoid splashes. Rain water that is caught in a funnel on top, runs down into a measuring cylinder below – where it can be recorded.
